Course Overview:
The Handcuffing Certification Course is designed to teach students how to safely and legally restrain individuals using chain or hinged handcuffs. This hands-on course focuses on control, compliance, liability reduction, and the ethical use of restraints in real-world scenarios.
Course Topics Include:
Understanding legal justification and use-of-force policies. When to handcuff and when not to.
Proper positioning techniques for officer safety.
One-officer and two-officer handcuffing methods.
Control holds and verbal commands.
Positional asphyxia awareness and risk mitigation.
Documentation and report writing tips following restraint incidents.

Each candidate who is successful in completing the course will receive an ASP Certificate from ASP International.
There are three ASP Handcuff Training basic standards:
1. The techniques work on the street, not just in the classroom.
2. The techniques are court-defensible and are backed by the nation’s most experienced use-of-force consultants.
3. The program is administratively feasible for use in a contemporary private security or law enforcement agency.
These are physically demanding courses, and each student must be able to participate without restrictions.
The course is 4 hours total.
This field-level certification program provides participants with instruction on the operational use of the ASP Tactical Restraints. The curriculum covers basic portation (carrying) and presentation (drawing) techniques, as well as defensive application procedures. Upon successful completion, certification confirms that the individual has met the required competency standards in both knowledge and performance.

Students will need to have the following items for class.
Govt. Issued Photo ID
Handcuffs and case
Close-toed shoes (duty boots) – athletic shoes are acceptable
Wear comfortable clothing that can support your duty belt
Note-taking materials and plenty of water
No prior experience required. Certification issued upon successful completion.
Students will be required to adhere to all rules and requirements. Failure to do so will result in disqualification from the course and removal from the class.
Students are encouraged to bring beverages for the classroom.
Prints are not required for ASP handcuff training.
